Bollywood films which couldn’t live up to the hype

There are times when even a hugely hyped movie doesn’t get the cash registers at the box office ringing. Take the example of Fan, the movie has been praised by everybody. Every respected critic has given a thumbs up for the film. But even then, Fan has failed to live up to the hype. Till Tuesday,Fan could only garner Rs 58 crores at the box office when the cost of production of the film is Rs 107 crores. The film was supposed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in the first weekend itself but it couldn’t garner the ticket sales it was looking out for. From Monday onwards Fan crashed at the box office with the ticket sales dipping alarmingly.

Bombay Velvet : The film had such powerhouse actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and also had Karan Johar making his debut as a villain. Coming from the stable of such a high profile director like Anurag Kashyap, the expectations from the film were sky high. The film opened to a mixed response with some critics giving a okay review to the film. However, soon the film crashed at the box office.

Asoka : This was Shah Rukh Khan’s first period film which also starred Kareena Kapoor. It crashed at the box office on the very first day of its release. The film created a huge hype and the songs were a huge hit. However, the faults in the storyline and the long running time created a negative impact.

RGV ka Aag : The flop of this movie is well known and started the downward descent of Ram Gopal Verma which he couldn’t control. Ram Gopal Verma admits even today that he couldn’t recover fully from the disaster. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan in lead roles.

Love Story 2050 : Priyanka Chopra signed this much hyped film for her ex-boyfriend, Harman Baweja. But the film flopped right from the first day of its release. Harman Baweja couldn’t recover fully from the loss and ultimately bowed away as an actor.

Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se : The film was deserted by the audience from the first show itself and it is said that it was a result of bad marketing and packaging. It is listed as one of the worst disasters of Bollywood. The presence of Deepika Padukone and a great ensemble of character actors failed to live up to the hype.

Drona : Abhishek Bachchan was there in this film too. It also had Priyanka Chopra and Jaya Bachchan. The star cast had zero impact on the box office.

Raavan : The film was made by Mani Ratnam and also starred Aishwarya. But this film failed at the box office in a very bad way. Raavan was a hugely hyped film and had too many people pinning their hopes on it. The film couldn’t last at the theatres.
