Audacious actresses who’ve treaded the path less-travelled

It has always been
said that Bollywood stereotypes actresses. However, there are few actresses
who’ve dared to change their image and take a completely different path in Hindi
cinema. They’ve dared to go through a transition thereby providing a
varied transformation in their reel characters. Let’s take a look at some
Bollywood divas who have managed to display a transition in the
characters they usually portray:

Kangana Ranaut in Tanu weds Manu Returns : Kangana played a tom
boy in the sequel of her successful franchise film. Her role was very well
appreciated by the audience. She spoke a Haryanvi dialect in the film which in
itself was a great deal. She rocked the tom boy character thereby giving a stupendous
performance for the viewers to rejoice with.

Priyanka Chopra in Barfi : The actress received
humongous appreciation for her character in Anurag Basu’s Barfi. The way she portrayed Jhilmil on the silver screen melted
our hearts thereby giving us a character that will always stay with us. The
actress didn’t care about her diva image when she dared to play an autistic
girl. No wonder that a brilliant actor like PeeCee has taken even Hollywood by
storm and rightly so!

Vidya Balan in Dirty Picture : The powerhouse of
exceptional talent that she is, Vidya Balan can carry any film on her solitary
shoulders. Her role in Dirty Picture was tremendously loved, applauded and appreciated and everyone felt that Vidya nailed the sensuality
exuded by late South sex bomb Silk Smita to the T. Her performance in the film
will remain as one of the top five performances of her career for decades to

Rani Mukherjee in Laga Chunari Mein Daag : In a phase of romcoms,
Rani stole the show with her character in the film, Laga Chunari Mein Daag, a film that was an audacious attempt by an
actress who was at her peak and was offered mainstream commercial role in
abundance. While her rivals and contemporaries developed cold feet to play the
character, Rani took it head on and owned it like nobody else’s business. It
was a path-breaking character about a journey of a girl from a small town to a
big city and how the journey transforms her into something completely
